Kitchen safety rulesfor momsWhen you have little children in your kitchen it is important you stick to certain safety rules. Our kitchens are full of potential hazards and probably the most dangerous place for a child.
The easiest would be to use a baby gate to stop young children from going in the kitchen.
But sometimes you do not have a choice, when you have to cook dinner and at the same time watch your little baby.
Try to create a safe area for your child by using highchairs, safety gates or playpens. A young child can easily get burned by leaning to a hot oven door or grab a pan with boiling hot food.
To prevent your child from turning on the stove use stove knob covers or install a stove guard barrier. Prefer to use the backburners of the stove so your kid cannot reach the handles of pots and pans.
With an oven lock you can prevent your child from getting burned by a hot oven.
Keep all cleaning products locked away in a cabinet. Ingesting of these products can cause serious poisoning symptoms.
Keep dangerous appliances to the rear of the counter. There should be no appliance cords dangling of the counter so that children cannot pull appliances off the bench.
Put a refrigerator latch so your child cannot open the fridge.
Your trashcan should be covered so your child cannot open it.
Check if your kitchens electrical outlets have ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection.
Remove all small objects like fridge magnets that may become a chocking hazard for your child.
Keep glassware, plastic bags, knifes and other sharp objects locked in cabinets.
If your child pulls on a tablecloth he may at the same time pull everything on the table on top of him.
Here are a few essential kitchen safety products.

Baby highchair.
But if you use a highchair be careful not to put it anywhere near the stove. Never leave your baby alone in the highchair and make sure he is buckled in at all times. And if you use a folding highchair it should have a locking device to keep the chair from collapsing.

From: Safe Beginnings
Some paediatricians do not recommend warming baby bottles in the microwave.
Microwaves heat the formula unevenly. The milk in the bottle can be lukewarm from the outside and burning hot in the middle and than burn your baby's mouth.
Always shake the bottle well before use and try a few drops on your inner wrist.
It is safer to use a Baby Bottle Warmer
or some warmed tap water to warm the bottle.
A safe environment is your number one priority when you have children in your kitchen. Teach your children important kitchen safety rules, like washing their hands before and after handling food and not to touch a hot stove or food that just came out of the oven or microwave.
